Someone
left their computer at my house
back in '93 while they went
travelling. I was instantly
addicted, and knew that the
possibilities were boundless.
I began sleeping less, surfing
the web, awed at what the world
was creating. My background
in marketing and advertising
began to mingle with my internet
fascination. Eleven years
later, I refined the melding
of these worlds and developed
WebCocktail. During that time
I studied, I trialed, I errored,
and boy, did I learn a lot!
I approach web design as an
architect would a house design.
Everyone has a different house
inside of them that will best
fit their needs. There
is no packaged solution that
is going to be best for everyone.
For some, ranking #1 on Google
is the best marketing strategy,
for others simply having a
kick butt ezine is the answer.
It is important that a client
can work with someone who understands
where they are coming from
and more importantly, what
they want to accomplish with
their site. No book is
going to teach you that.
Only experience in the industry
can offer this.

I have been actively involved
in web production for eight years. What began as an
off-the-cuff request from my boss at the time to "whip
up a web page...quick!" (and the subsequent sobbing under my desk) turned into a successful career
as the content production manager for a major web presence
at Apple Computer. For the past three years, I have
had my own business developing and implementing sites for
a number of clients, as well as providing writing and editorial
services.
I have a very definite philosophy of web production: elegance
and straightforward functionality. I believe in clean
design with visual impact, and the editor (and former teacher)
in me dictates that the content of a site is both readable
and grammatically correct.
I live in the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area with my Sam,
my partner in crime. I love cooking, books, travel,
and my cats... but not all at once.

I remember surfing the web back
in 1994 and downloading pictures of the Sistine Chapel and
all I knew was: this is going to change everything! Ten years,
everything's changed and everything is the same - the internet
has become the quickest, cheapest way to get yourself heard
and seen - and I love to tinker with it. I've helped lots
of clients get their businesses and lives online through web
design, consulting and training. My client list has included
more traditional corporate clients like an insurance company,
all the way to a voyeur webcam site.
My design philosophy is ABU: Always Be Useful. Not many people
surf business websites for fun - you're either online for
entertainment or research and a good business website does
both. Cluttered, messy design makes my teeth hurt.
I grew up in Indiana and moved to Chicago to pursue a career
in theatre as a playwright and director. I've since expanded
my vision from a local live audience to the global dynamism
of people and ideas. I wish I had a cat. I'm a compulsive
weblogger.
